Review
After reading Lost in Distraction I was left with a terrible feeling that this book would not be an HEA. I was terrified when I started reading it, I held my breathe through the first four chapters. I thought the level of anxiety I was feeling was going to kill me. I didn't want anything bad to happen to Elle, I immediately liked her in LID. I thought she was a fighter and saw her fighting for Brax and herself in this book. I was not let down. Chapter 5 is where you start to breathe again, but not for long. There are people out there who want to kill Elle, and Brax will stop at nothing to keep her safe.

My favorite line from the book is from Brax, "Hey, you gotta take it easy. I'm not leaving you again. Ever. You're my today, tomorrow and my forever if you'll still have me." *Tear* I love Brax and his sweetness. He isn't written as your typical domineering alpha male and that's what I liked about him.

This book is filled with tension, just when you think you've figured out who is stalking Elle, Bam!! Wrong again. There was a point when I thought I figured out where the story was going and yup, I was right. That one revelation was a shocker.

While reading this book you will be happy, shocked and ugly crying if you are like me. I can't wait to read the novella that BJ is working on for Shay. She gave us snippets about his past and I'm dying to find out more about him. I give this book 4 Stars!

Review

"Sometimes , it takes someone just as broken as you are to heal you. Sometimes, it takes someone else to show you that you won't heal until every breath you take is for you, not anyone else. The scars may not ever fade, but the heart can be put back together piece by piece, if you have the right person for the job."

This is one of the many quotes from the book that stole my heart. I want to start off by saying that this is now in my Top 5 reads of 2013 thus far. I absolutely loved this book and it was wonderfully written. Sweet, Intense, Heart Breaking, Heart Warming and Full of Love. Those are the words I would use to describe this book.

When you first start off reading you are left a little in the dark on Makenna's past. You slowly start to learn her secrets and why she fears intimacy. We meet Drew in the beginning and I'll admit that I fell for him. The way he was willing to help her through her struggles and his patience and understanding go above and beyond.

Makenna has suffered a terrible loss and for the past two years she hides her devastation behind a facade of happiness and normalcy, but she is far from normal and is on the verge of breaking.

Callie is Makenna's spunky, tell-it-like-it-is friend and I loved her. Sometimes you have to hurt the ones you love and push them over the edge to bring them back.

I can't give much away because this book takes twists and turns in the plot that I could not predict. I felt so many emotions while reading this. My heart broke repeatedly throughout right along with Makenna.

Sawyer, what can I say about him? He is swoonworthy, he instantly captured my heart. My heart broke for him and his demons he carried from war and his work at home. He is kind, caring, a protector.

The last five chapters of the book had me white knuckling my Kindle. I was so into the writing that I felt like I was right there in the living room with them. I was holding my breathe, on the verge of tears. It was an amazingly written intense ending.

Epilogue:  Yes folks, this book is an HEA so no worries there. I cried my way through the epilogue. It is one of the sweetest endings I've read in a long time. I literally had to stop and wipe my eyes so that I could continue reading. The End, those two words killed me. I have a huge hangover right now. I may have to read this again soon. I happily give this book 5 Stars!

Tour Stop: BREAKING THE RULES (Back to Brooklyn) by H.B. Heinzer ~ Review/Giveaway

Title: Breaking the Rules
Author: H.B. Heinzer

Synopsis
Growing up in small town Wisconsin, Carly Turner couldn't wait to escape when she graduated high school. Now, she's living the life in New York City, even if she isn't seeing her name in lights like she used to dream about at night. She's living paycheck-to-paycheck, working behind the scenes in small theaters off Broadway. When there's an equipment malfunction the week before opening night, Carly makes a call that winds up changing everything.
Life in the city isn't all it's cracked up to be. While she feels like she's getting closer to making the move from behind the scenes to center stage, she misses being surrounded by people who understand the quirks that come from living in a town of five thousand people. That, and the fact that he's sexy as sin, make Adam everything she feels like she's missing.
The only problem? He's her best friend's kid brother...
Adam Sanders wants to settle down, find a good woman and start a family like he sees so many of his friends doing. But how is he supposed to meet Ms. Right when he's constantly on the road for work? When he's sent to New York to handle a repair that would typically be contracted out as a favor to his boss, he's just about to his breaking point.
Everything changes when the stagehand sent to open the theater for him is none other than his big sister's childhood friend. The same girl he lusted after as a teenager. Could this be fate's way of showing him that he was looking in the wrong place for love?
As Adam and Carly's friendship develops, lines will be crossed and rules will be broken. Will they be able to come out the other side without destroying everything they had back in Brooklyn?

Excerpt

Carly wanted to make a dramatic first impression for their date. When the sickly intercom bleated to let her know Adam was back, she buzzed him in and quickly retreated to her bedroom locking the door behind her. "Do you always leave your apartment unlocked?" Adam called out as he entered the living area.

"No, I left it open today because I have a cute boy coming over," she giggled. "Your stuff is in the other room."

"Need me to clear out before he gets here?" Adam asked, playing along. One more thing to add to the growing list of little things she was going to miss about him. Dammit, there shouldn't even be a list...

"Might be a good idea," she called through the closed door. "Now, get ready so we can go."

Rather than waiting for him in the living room, Carly remained sequestered until he knocked on her door. "Did that boy come and sweep you away from me?"

When she opened the door, Adam was speechless. Mission accomplished. As much as they both loved her pigtails, Carly had opted to allow her hair to fall in soft blonde curls to the middle of her back. The dress stopped just short of mid-thigh, elongating her toned legs. Carly laughed at his reaction. "Are we going or are you going to stand around all night?"

"Damn," he exclaimed, "You definitely don't look like a little girl tonight."

She rolled her eyes at the statement. "I haven't been a little girl for a long time. And how in the hell do you get away with calling me a little girl, you're younger than I am," she snapped playfully.

"That's not what I..." It felt right that he was the one at a loss for words tonight. "Wow," he said grabbing her arm to spin her around, "You look beautiful. This is, by far, the best trip I've had in a long time."

For a split second, it was easy to think this was her life and Adam was a guy she was seriously attracted to. His comment thrust her back into reality. His presence was temporary and probably always would be. For a brief moment, she thought her Broadway dreams were overrated. A small part of Carly wished she were back home living with her laid-back friends and able to spend time with Adam whenever he was home.

It was a good thing she hadn't picked a dressier outfit for the night. Adam was once again wearing his ultra-soft, faded jeans paired with a simple white t-shirt and black vest. Proving that he was still as goofy as ever, a pair of bright green Chuck Taylors brought the outfit back to earth.

Walking down the street, Carly caught their reflection in the window of the local seamstress. She didn't care if the thought that they made a damn awesome looking couple seemed conceited. Well, other than the height difference, but even that was adorable.

“So, Peanut...” Carly's head whipped in his direction, not expecting him to call her by her childhood nickname. No one had called her that since Pop Turner died when she was sixteen. Adam chuckled, pulling her close to his side. “What do you have planned for us tonight?”

About the author...
With the exception of three years spent in the middle of Nebraska, H.B. Heinzer has called southern Wisconsin home. During that time in Nebraska, she imagined one of her favorite authors living on the far western edge of the county, just south of the highway. At the time, becoming a novelist was a distant dream for her. Now, she is the author living in that location. Ironically, she later found out that same favorite author lives just outside the town HB lived in for the first eighteen years of her life.
Now, HB lives in the middle of nowhere but still close enough to the city to not feel isolated. It's the perfect place to let her two kids run and explore their huge yard, teach them about the food chain as they prepare their first-ever garden and debate building a chicken coop. It's one of those dreams that is only possible thanks to the amazing opportunities that have come through writing.

WOW H.B.Heinzer, you have gone and stole my heart again with your writing and characters!! I love when an author can write a story real to life, have you feeling the characters emotions and cheering for them to get through their difficult times!

This beautiful story of Adam and Carly picks up (kind of) where Bent left off. Yet it could be read as a stand alone.

This story is one that will take you on the journey of not only love, but also facing the fear of abandonment. There were times throughout the story that I was like aww, come on guys, quit screwing this up for crying out loud and TALK to each other. And there were times I wanted to shake Adam because he was not being sensitive to her insecurities. I wanted to tell her to wake up and see what a good man he is and that he really was trying to understand her.

The story line flows well and it’s a very sweet story that makes you want to hang around a little longer to watch the next stage of Adam and Carly’s lives unfold.

Excerpt
“I am sorry, Alexa. Please understand this is incredibly difficult for me.” He leaned in and placed his forehead against hers. “I want you so badly right now, in this moment, but I want you forever more. That is why we must wait.”
Well, shit. Hearing that just made her want him even more. Maybe it was all just a line of bullshit, some kind of reverse psychology to get her in bed, but it was working.
Forgetting her embarrassment she leaned her face up and pressed her mouth against his yet again, then pulled away and said, “Please, Ethan,” another kiss, “please, I want to be with you tonight.”
Before she could blink he was over the center console kissing her fervently as he pressed his knee between her legs sending a jolt of arousal through her.
And just like that he pulled back, hovering over her and looking into her eyes while she panted with desire.
“Alexa, I cannot come up with you tonight.” Her expression became one of hurt and confusion, until he continued, “But, I am going to make you cum with my mouth, I must taste you.”
His words and the hunger in his eyes were almost enough to send her over the edge.
And then he crushed his mouth against hers, sliding his tongue inside as a promise of what was to come when he moved between her legs.

*This review contains spoilers*

Choices of Fate is a modern romance that incorporates various paranormal elements, including vampires, witches, and seers that all have varying abilities.

Our main character is Alexa, who we learn can read people's minds. The book starts with her at a specialist's office with her baby, Chloe, who has been crying almost non-stop and refusing to eat for the past two weeks. Previous doctors have been unable to determine what's wrong, so Alexa has been referred to this specialist. As she's at the doctor's office, she daydreams back to her brief two-day fling with Chloe's father, who she hasn't seen since the night Chloe was conceived.

I like how the author interweaved the story this way, giving us bits of information at a time about Ethan, our male main character. Ethan and Alexa met at a bar one night, and their connection is instantaneous. And for some reason, Alexa is unable to read Ethan's mind. Little do we know, Ethan has a secret of his own, one that will change Alexa's life.

Alexa and Ethan go on an impromptu date to the zoo following their meeting at the bar. When he drives Alexa home, she invites him to spend the night even though they just met. Ethan declines, partly because of his secret, which we find out is linked to a prophecy he has been running from his whole life.

The next morning, Ethan takes Alexa for breakfast, where their feelings for another are more fast and furious than before. Both already feel like they are meant for one another, even after only meeting less than a day ago. I don't like insta-love unless there's an unexplained driving force, and we find out later what that force is. They get to know each other, and Alexa confesses to Ethan that she is a virgin. I usually don't like twenty-something virgins because that is so unrealistic to me in our day and age. However, given Alexa's ability to read minds, including those of horny guys that only want sex and are mentally critiquing you sexually the whole time you're with them, I can understand why she is a virgin.

This leads to a full day of hot, steamy sex, at the end of which, Ethan's carnal vampire desires overwhelm him and he bites Alexa. Once he tastes her blood, he discovers that she is the woman from his prophecy, the one he has been running from. He immediately puts her to sleep using his powers and leaves, still afraid of the consequences of the prophecy.

Alexa is distraught when she finds Ethan left her, along with his goodbye letter saying they should never see each other again. She searches for Ethan, basically becoming a stalker, but she never finds him. Weeks later, she finds out she is pregnant.

Alexa and Ethan don't meet again until Chloe is about 9 months old, almost a year and a half later. The story takes off after that, but I don't want to give any more away. I will say that there is way more steamy romance.

Choices of Fate was an interesting story, but there were many grammar and spelling errors that take away from the story. But even with those errors, Choices of Fate is still worth the read.

Review ~ 4.5 Stars
H.B. Heinzer’s “Bent” is a tender/stormy story about Julia and Micah finding their way through lies, broken hearts and too many years of assuming the worst about each other. A sudden life change puts them back in proximity of each other, and things heat up fast and furious as they did when they were high school sweethearts. There were many times during this book that I wanted to shake the crap out of Micah and there were times I wanted to give Julia a piece of my mind! Despite that fact I also understood where she was coming from in finding her own identity, which is vitally important to all of us. This books was very real to life and was beautifully written.

About the author...
I was born and raised in the Bronx and moved to Port St Lucie, Florida nine years ago. I am the youngest of three children. We are a very dysfunctional family, but it was fun growing up in that chaotic environment. I met my once in a lifetime, Edgar love in college. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Health. I’ve been married twenty-three years and have two children. I have always had a passion for reading and writing short stories. With the support and encouragement of my husband I decided to write my first novel, Tormented. It was a struggle but fulfilling at the same time. I plan to continue to writing. I’m not looking for fame but sharing my stories.

It’s hard writing a biography about oneself because it almost sounds like your tooting your own horn. Anyone who knows me would say I’m nerdy and in a way I am but nerds can be cool, funny and sexy. (I’m just saying.) I’m currently working on Bound by Grace. I like the characters. Grace is fiery and quick-witted. She’s not afraid to speak her mind or stand up for herself and Brock loves to get her riled up. Every day I learn something new as a writer. I hope readers enjoy my stories as much as I enjoy writing them.
